Programming

Modbus to Nmea 2000 gateway flashing guide Connect the Modbus to the NMEA Network and STM32 Programmer

Turn on 12V NMEA Power.

Open STM32CubeProgrammer and open the programming tab

Connect to the Unit and select the file path: S:\Code\Production\3155 Modbus Gateway\3155bootloader.bin

click 'Start Programming', the unit should have its blue LED constantly on.

Open Monex and click “Get Serial” and “Get ProdInfo”, you should receive “OCEANIC BOOTLOADER 3155-L4”

Now go to the Programming tab

Make sure the Target Device Instance matched the switch on the unit and click 3155

Press Reprogram! and select S:\Code\Production\3155 Modbus Gateway\3155.bin

The unit will start to program, wait until “Re-booting to Application Code” is displayed, the unit will not have the Blue led flash every 2 seconds.

Go into Monex and press 'Get ProdInfo' again, it should display what you can see below:

Test Procedure

You Will Need:

  • USB to RS-485 Converter
  • Programmed 3155
  • Small Flat-Head Screwdriver
  • NMEA Power
  • QModMaster Installed on your PC

If you do not have QModMaster downloaded, it is in S:/Downloads/QModMaster → Copy the .zip file into a seperate folder on your desktop and unzip inside the folder, then look for the 'Application File'.

Testing

Step 1

The USB to RS-485 should have the following Connections:

Connect the USB to RS-485 Converter to the 3155 screw in terminal blocks as shown, tighten with flat head screwdriver (not too hard).

Step 2

Plug in USB to RS-485 Converter into your PC.

Go into “device Manager” and confirm what COM port the device is on (The device will be called: Silicon Labs CP201x USB to UART Bridge)

Step 3

Power up the 3155 using the NMEA connector and 12V power supply

Step 4

Open Up QModMaster

In 'Options' → Modbus RTU Select the following settings:

Select the Serial Port that was shown in Device Manager!!!

Step 5

Select the Following Settings in QModMaster:

Modbus Mode: RTU

Slave Address: 16

Scan Rate: 1000

Function Code: Read Input Registers (0x04)

Start Address: 52 (Dec) (NOTE For 9011 this value shall be 46)

Number of Registers: 1

Data Format: Hex

Step 6

Click the 'Connect' Button:

Step 7

Open Monex, then from the transmit controls on the left, press the “Tx Enable” button for the first sender.

Step 8

Click the Scan Button

A 4 digit number should appear in the big white box below, it should read 0000. Move the slider in Monex to 50 and it should read 30D4. Move the slider to 100 and it should read 61A8.

If a Values are received successfully then testing is completed
