5170 Build Instructions

The 5170 assembly contains components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) – please make sure you are wearing your wrist strap when handling.

Remove the cover of the NVR case (203706) = 3 screws Rotate the fan through 90 degrees making sure the power cable is on the bottom – nearest where the Motherboard will go.

Remove the Hard drive bracket near the fan.

Remove extra motherboard mounting post from the casing.

This is a bit tricky and will need a pair of grips to rotate the pin out of the case. Make sure there is no lose metal left behind.

Inside the Motherboard box, there will be the external components mask that will fit the hole at the rear of the case. Make sure this goes in place before you fix the Motherboard! This snaps into place from the inside – out.

Now prepare the PSU. This goes in the space at the front of the case.

Before you place the PSU completely, plug in the Hard-drive power cable into the PSU.

As you feed in the PSU into the case, feed the cables through the small hole in the case next to it.

Next remove the front hard-drive case and mount the hard-drive into it using the correct screws

. Do not over-tighten as the hard-drive will be cushioned by the rubber seals

Fit the Hard-drive and it’s housing back in place.

Now you can add the Motherboard,

make sure you have the right orientation and the screw holes line up with the pillars. Make sure you have already removed the spare pillar mentioned above! Screw the Motherboard into place gently. Do not over-tighten.

Start connecting the wires to the motherboard.

The fan needs to be plugged into a fan power supply on the board. (shown above).

Next, connect the power cables from the front of the case to the Motherboard.

Adjust the blue jumpers to the correct position covering.

Connect all the power cables to the Motherboard and the external Hard-drive. One cable for the hard-drive will come from the PSU, the other will come from the Motherboard (see picture) above

Now it is safe to secure the PSU using the bracket provided. Also, plug in the power cable from the case into the PSU and switch the switch to on (1).

Next place the SSD into the slot nearest the PSU.

You will need a short screw to keep it in place.

Add the CPU. You should already be wearing anti-static aids, but if not, make sure you are now. Using the correct driver, undo the CPU holder in the correct order as shown on the actual holder. Release the 2nd bracket and remove the plastic holder. Remove the CPU from its box, carefully - to avoid touching the connectors. Remove the plastic housing and gently sit onto the motherboard. Now lock-in the first clamp. Then screw down the 2nd clamp in the correct order. Make sure the top of the CPU is clean of grease, finger marks and any dirt. Next you will place the heat sink onto the CPU. As you remove the heat sink from its packaging, take extra care not to touch the grey heat paste on the bottom. Align the heat-sink with caution so as to not smudge the paste when the two meet. It is advised to face the fan toward the outer casing. Align the screws above the holes. It is best to loosely start all four screws in place before you tighten them. You then need to connect the fan power cable to the Motherboard.

Now we can place x 2 Server RAM into the slots furthest from the CPU

Finally, tidy up the cables with the provided tape and cable tiles. Ensure the cables will not move about and short out or obstruct parts on the Motherboard.
